Paolo Pacciolla is an Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology in the Department of Performing Arts at Christ University, Bengaluru. He previously served as a Tagore National Fellow at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (2019–2021) and an ICCR Senior Fellow at the International Centre for Kerala Studies, University of Kerala (2017–2018). His research spans the history and archaeology of musical instruments, religious studies, and the ritual functions of music and dance. He is particularly interested in the relationship between music and visual imagery—both painted and enacted—within the Indian context. His ethnographic work focuses extensively on the language and ritual significance of Indian drumming. He is the author of several articles and two recent monographs: The Indian Drum of the King-God and the Pakhavaj of Nathdwara (Routledge, 2020) and Enlivening Rhythms (IGNCA, 2024).
